FAQ's

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about my books.

Q: Are the diaries real?

A:  No, but I loved the idea of bringing the reader into everyday observations of each woman, while weaving details of the plot and characters.

Q:  Are the characters based on real people?

A: Although each main character is a fictional, for Susan Lee's story in The Driftwood Diaries,  I referred to a memoir written by my Great-Aunt Rella. It describes her childhood wagon journeys from Missouri to Colorado, then to Texas, which gave me much needed information on settlements, daily hardships, and life on the prairie. Under a Klondike Sky includes several historical characters, such as Klondike Kate. She really did homestead near Bend, Oregon after she left Dawson City, and her long-time lover was really theater owner Alex Pantages.

Q: What inspired you to write about Ivy's life in High Desert Angel?

A: I read an obituary in 2013 about a WWII Army nurse who survived internment in Manila. Once I researched the events surrounding these amazing nurses, I imagined how a young girl from Fort Rock, Oregon, could end up so far from home, in the hands of the enemy.
